Bone Black

Bone Black is a book that was written a long time ago, but is now becoming increasingly popular in all societies. The book is written by Bell Hooks and it is about her memories of childhood. She tells about her growing up experience and the things she had to go through in a southern society.

Bone Black is the kind of book that all women in the world could relate to because no matter how advanced society gets, there would always be elements in it that suppress the happiness, emotions and potential of women. This is something that has not completely vanished from the world.

Bell Hooks is a feminist and a great intellectual who has always spoken for women, but Bone Black is a book that is for everyone. It relates to women in Asia, Arab and even Central America. There is so much that could be learned from Bone Black because it reminds humans of their natural instinct to suppress women wherever they are and whatever society they represent.

In Bone Black Hooks tells about her childhood and how she was aware of the social norms around her at a very young age. She understood early on what roles women and men play in society and the harsh suppression women have to go through. She tells about the development of her creativity in Bone Black and her transition to a great writer. She also tells about the fact that she found great company in loneliness and her books.

Mocospace Website

Mocospace is a relatively simple social networking website if compared to other popular social networking sites like Facebook or Myspace. The goal of Mocospace seems to be straightforward social networking. It is a typical grownup website that is well suited to people in their mid 20s. the environment and attitude of the site is very mid 20 because apart from a music section of Mocospace where the hottest current music could be listened to for free, there is no other section like games or apps.

Facebook provides the users of the site a wide array of games and other useful applications like horoscope calculators and other stuff that is really useful in real life. Many of the apps on Facebook are used by professionals for real time reference. Mocospace however, doesn’t offer anything like that but maybe it is getting there and maybe in the near future there might be some more enhancements to the site. But f the time being the site is good for only social networking, nothing more. But isn’t that what most people want form social networking sites? There is a huge population of people out there who hate Farmville and Mafia Wars and are completely content with their connections with friends and family.

On Mocospace there is a very nice friend finder, chat room and message manager. The best thing about Mocospace is that people on Mocospace could connect to their friends on Facebook. An even better option is that users could log into Mocospace with their MySpace account.

Jordan Grown V2 Dark Garnet/Black/Light Bone

We like how the Jordan brand has as of late been putting out a lot of new shoes that are aimed towards the more mature and aging sneakerheads. All of their Air Jordan sneakers are certainly nice, but they are not always appropriate for every occasion. That is why it is always nice to have other options for the times when you need your need your choice of footwear to be a little more grown up. For times like that there is the Jordan Grown V2 and this one will come in a dark garnet, black and light bone colorway.

The upper here will be made out of canvas and will be made out of deep garnet, which is a dark maroon sort of colorway. This will sit on top of a white sole and will be accented by black in certain places throughout the shoe as well.

Lynnewood Hall in ruins: Philly Mansion crumbles

ELKINS PARK, Pa. -- Lynnewood Hall, a century-old stunner of a building just outside Philadelphia, silently, almost invisibly, languishes 200 feet beyond a two-lane blacktop road like a crumbling little Versailles.

The graceful fountain that welcomed hundreds of well-heeled visitors, President Franklin Roosevelt among them, was dismantled and sold years ago. Its once meticulously sculpted French gardens are overgrown with weeds and vines. The classical Indiana limestone facade may have lost its luster but its poise still remains - at least from the other side of rusted wrought iron gates that keep the curious at bay.

(100th Anniversary Boy Scout Parade, China Oil Spill and more in Day in Photos)

Like other Gilded Age palaces of the nation's pre-Depression industrial titans, Lynnewood Hall is a relic of a bygone era facing an uncertain future. Will it befall the same fate as neighboring Whitemarsh Hall, the demolished mansion of banking magnate Edward Stotesbury? Or will it be returned to former glory, like industrialist Alfred I. duPont's former Nemours Mansion in Delaware?

"It's a tragedy that people drive past Lynnewood Hall and don't know what it is, or don't even notice it's there," said Stephen J. Barron, who runs a website and Facebook group aiming to drum up interest in the mansion's plight. "It breaks my heart and it bothers me. The house is a work of art."

Long before its current humble predicament, Lynnewood Hall was home to the uber-wealthy Widener family and called "the last of the American Versailles."

The lord of Lynnewood Hall, Peter A.B. Widener, started out as a butcher. After making a small fortune supplying mutton to Union troops during the Civil War, he grew into a full-fledged tycoon from buying streetcar and railroad lines and investing in steel, tobacco and oil.

Among the spoils was his 480-acre estate, its centerpiece the 110-room, 70,000-square-foot Georgian-style palace designed by architect Horace Trumbauer.

Lynnewood Hall was completed in late 1900 and cost $8 million to build - a staggering $212 million in today's dollars.

It had a ballroom that held 1,000 people, an indoor pool and squash court, a bakery and full-time upholstery and carpentry shops. The estate boasted its own power station, horse track and stables, and a 220-acre farm run by a staff of 100.

French landscape architect Jacques Greber designed the formal French gardens, which were graced by his brother Henri-Louis Greber's fountain of bronze and marble statuary.

"It's a great building and it has great potential for commercial use, especially for institutional use," said Mary Werner DeNadai, principal of John Milner Architects in Chadds Ford. "It was certainly built to last."

Real Housewives of New Jersey' recap: Bankrupt Teresa Giudice wants diamonds, not that she's Arabic or anything

The "Real Housewives of New Jersey", and one Real Offspring in particular, continue to astound with a toxic mixture of obliviousness, self-righteousness and massive entitlement. Two cases in point: Teresa Giudice making a play for diamonds for her tenth anniversary mere weeks after filing for bankruptcy, and Ashley Holmes pitching a fit because her parents won't like, get over the fact that she assaulted Danielle Staub. I mean, it was just her hair extensions! It wasn't, like, her actual hair!

Jillian's debut: Danielle's friend Cynthia comes over to plan Christine's sweet 16. Christine is not into the party, but then, she says, "I came up with the idea of donating the money I earned at the sweet 16 to a charity" Pray tell, how does one earn money at their own party? Getting, yes. Earning? Maybe her mother can answer that question. Kidding. Nice gesture. Jillian writes songs, and Danielle wants her to perform one at Christine's party. She starts to sing one, and I can't bring myself to critique it. She's 11 and has Danielle Staub for a mother. She has enough crosses to bear. Jillian stops singing after a couple of lines and starts crying. "She was just in a mood," Danielle says. "Artists get into moods. Whatever she's feeling is just going to make her performance that much stronger." Jillian is an artist like Gia is an actress. Just sayin'.

Can Kim G. be trusted?: Jacqueline Laurita tells Caroline Manzo about her run-in with Kim Granatell. "I don't hate her. I don't think she's evil. I just think she's a people-pleaser." Caroline counsels Jacqueline to keep her distance from Kim G. so Danielle doesn't get wind of anything that she can use against Ashley in the upcoming court proceedings. They rail about Danielle, and why she can't any empathy for Ashley when Danielle did stupid things when she was a kid, and blah blah blah, we've heard this all before. Caroline and Jacqueline also talk about the fact that Danielle doesn't know that Kim G. is friends with Jacqueline, which is sure to send her over the edge ... just in time for next week's episode.

It's the economy, stupid: The Giudices are playing Monopoly -- oh, the irony! -- and we learn that Teresa and Joe are celebrating their tenth anniversary. Teresa's question is not, how are we going to celebrate honey? but, so what are you doing for me? Jacqueline and husband Chris head over to the Giudice's house, where they enjoy some wine in the kitchen. Hey, nice stove! Where can I get one of those? Joe takes Chris aside and says that Teresa wants diamonds for her anniversary. Back in the kitchen, Teresa too brings up diamonds, and Jacqueline wants more details -- the Crown Jewel? "No, not the Crown Jewel," Teresa scoffs. "What do you think I am, Arabic or something ... Or wait, is that Indian?" Joe: "Guess every 10 years you gotta splurge a little, right? I've been trying to like, not go that route, but ... especially in these times, you know what I mean? The money isn't flowing like it used to. Now it's just trickling." We interrupt this recap for some righteous indignation. How can Joe and Teresa sit there in their $4 million home, sipping wine and laughing and talking about buying diamonds just weeks after filing bankruptcy papers in which they seek relief from $11 million in debt? After the bankruptcy filing become public, Teresa claimed she and Joe would learn from their mistakes? When will that happen? How does the earth not just open up and swallow them whole? Breathe. On their anniversary night, and Joe (or maybe Bravo) rents a helicopter for a ride over Manhattan. "I want to do this, like, once a month," Teresa says. "Then it's on the Westin Jersey City for room service. Dessert is chocolate cake, topped with a big diamond ring. Then we see Teresa straddling Joe on the bed. My eyes!

Learning from your mistakes (not): Jacqueline drives Ashley to the post office to pick up her summons to appear in court over pulling Danielle's hair at the fashion show. Ashley continues to be quite pissy and put out about the whole thing. Jacqueline says she hopes that going to court will scare a little sense into Ashley. She asks Ashley how should would have handled the situation differently. "I don't know. Obviously not hit her, I guess." Ashley says that on one hand, she regrets pulling Danielle's hair, but on the other hand, boy, did it feel good. (Why is girl-on-girl violence okay? If the guy who punched Snooki off her bar stool on "Jersey Shore" had said, "It felt really good to get all that anger off my chest," he would have been strung up.) According to the summons, Danielle says that after Ashley pulled her hair, Ashley screamed, "I got her, I'll get her, I'll kill you." We've seen the footage, and that appears to be an embellishment. Ashley says she plans to plead guilty to assault but not to harassment. She starts to mock Danielle, and Jacqueline says in voiceover, "Ashley was giggling and stuff. I don't know if it's a nervous laugh or she's just being a smartass." Psst, it's the latter, minus the smart. Chris counsels Ashley to stay away from Danielle, and Ashley has it in her pretty little head that after the court case is over, she's going to sue Danielle "for everything she did." Chris says Danielle has nothing, so what is she going to sue her for? The more pertinent question is, what exactly did Danielle do to Ashley? Ashley storms out. Chris says she needs to learn a lesson. Oh, like last season, when she learned that acting obnoxious will get her a brand new SUV?

Happy birhtday: It's Christine's sweet 16. More than 300 people are expected to attend, including Danielle's ex, Tom, and his new wife. The guests start to arrive and walk the red carpet. Danielle says it's a benefit (though we never hear where the money Christine "earns" is going to), and Danielle got everything donated. Kim G. is there, and Tom Staub shows up with his new wife. There's a nice little reunion. Christine makes her entrance, bizarrely enough, on the shoulders of a professional bodybuilder. Jillian makes her singing debut. No comment. A good time is had by all.

And in our B story: Oh, and while applying to law school, Albie has entered the Passaic County Police Academy. And he likes to work out.

On location: Wilshire Grand Hotel in West Orange.

Best (worst) quote: "Here's a flash! Suri Cruise, that little girl, what is she, 3 years old, she wears heels." -- Danielle's pal Kathy to Jillian, trying to convince her to wear heels.

Nap Nanny Recalled After Baby’s Death

After the death of a 4-month old baby girl who died while strapped into a Nap Nanny, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of 30,000 of the popular baby recliners.

The infant, who was properly strapped into the foam-based bed, was discovered hanging over the side of the Nap Nanny, wedged between the recliner and the bumper of her crib. According to the CPSC and Baby Matters, the manufacturer of the Nap Nanny, the recliners are not designed to be used in a crib and should always be placed securely on the floor away from any other products.

While the Nap Nanny was being used improperly in this case, it isn’t the only incident involving an infant falling over the side despite being properly strapped in. The CPSC says they are aware of 22 similar incidents, most involving infants under the age of 5 months.

The Nap Nanny is a recliner that includes a foam base with an indention for the infant to sit in, a fitted fabric cover and a three point harness. The recalled Nap Nanny recliners are the first generation models that were manufactured without D-rings in the foam to secure the harness straps. If your Nap Nanny doesn’t have these D-rings (see photos at the CPSC site), you should immediately stop using it and contact Baby Matters to receive a coupon for $80 off the purchase of a new Nap Nanny with free shipping.

Consumers with a second generation Nap Nanny recliner – those with D-rings attached to the foam base and Velcro straps inside the fitted fabric cover – should also stop using the product until they have visited the Baby Matters website to view new product warnings and an instructional video with details on how to properly fasten the harness. Those who are unable to view the video online can contact Baby Matters to receive the video by mail.

The recalled Nap Nannys were sold at toy and children’s retail stores nationwide and online from January 2009 through July 2010 for about $130.

For more information, contact Baby Matters by calling (888) 240-4282 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by visiting their website at www.napnanny.com/recall.

If the recall of the Nap Nanny has you wondering just what baby products are safe to buy, you aren’t alone. The CPSC says they are working to ensure product safety and better inform parents about what products are unsafe. Does that make you feel better? Or have you lost faith in the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s ability to ensure that what we buy won’t harm our children?

Pepco Power Outage Leaves 240,000 Without Electricity

Submitted by KC Kelly Ph.D. on 2010-07-26

Heavy storms in Washington D.C. and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland left over 240,000 customers without power in their homes and offices when Pepco, Regional Utility had a massive outage. Power lines and trees fell during the storms and there were two fatalities reported. The area is now left with massive damage as workers are attempting to restore power to the area.

Authorities cannot yet say when power will be restored, but they have been working on it all day, according to Pepco spokesman, Clay Anderson, as there was far more damage than just downed power lines. Many transformers were damaged and electric poles actually broken said Anderson.

The two fatalities were of a forty year old woman and a six year old boy who didn't make it in the storms. Why these two people were outside during these storms is unknown. The boy was said to be outside walking with his family when a large part of a tree fell on him. Another woman in her sixties was injured when a tree fell on top of her.

Evacuations had to take place in three dozen apartment buildings due to damage and power outages. Streets are a mess because of downed wires and although the storm has passed, the wrath of it stays in these areas.

The storm caused major traffic issues today. Many traffic lights are out and drivers are being reminded to treat any intersections with flashing lights as four-way stops to avoid collisions.

Beginning at 1pm, Montgomery County Executivem, Isiah Leggett and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley are scheduled to survey storm damage and discuss plans for cleaning up the area. District Department of Transportation spokesman John Lisle says that, "DDOT has deployed traffic control officers and crossing guards to as many intersections as we can. DDOT has also sent generators and portable stop signs to others. The District is still dealing with about 50 intersections that do not have power."

Transit services, such as Metrobus, Montgomery's Ride On, the Fairfax Connector and the Circulator will be interrupted by the power outages and will affect traffic signals around the region. The District Department of Transportation says there are 52 intersections in the District affected by power outages.

FEATURES: First Look: 2011 Ford Explorer

Once the poster child of the traditional-SUV segment, the Ford Explorer is now a front-wheel-drive, four-cylinder, unibody crossover -- at least in base trim. It may be a strange and dramatic departure from the Explorer of yesteryear, but Ford execs are confident the new strategy can halt the icon's cliff dive from 445,157 sales in 2000 to 31,864 through the first six months of 2010. Fuel economy, they say, is the reason the segment has stalled. That explains the four-cylinder base engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit generating 237 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. The numbers aren't official yet, but a 30 percent increase in fuel economy over last year's V-6 is expected, which should yield 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

Opting for all-wheel-drive requires stepping up to the 3.5-liter V-6, which makes 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy for that powerplant should come in at 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Both engines use a six-speed automatic transmission. There is no V-8, but we anticipate a turbocharged V-6 with up to 400 hp will eventually arrive.

Exploring new segments
Ford is making no attempt to hide the fact that the new Explorer is a totally different type of vehicle. This fresh Explorer, they say, does everything buyers have demanded from the current model while improving on comfort and fuel economy. "We kind of convinced ourselves that there were two kinds of utility vehicles: body-on-frames and crossovers," said Jim Farley, group vice president of global marketing, sales, and service. "But frankly, a lot of customers don't see it like that. People just want to tow, they want to go off-road, they want to do things they sometimes didn't plan to do."

During the reveal, executives and engineers used the word "capability" almost as often as they did "Explorer," yet the smaller engines and a fuel-economy focus come with undeniable compromises. Maximum towing capacity drops from 7115 pounds to 5000 pounds while the four-cylinder tops out at 2000 pounds of towing. The low-range transfer case follows the V-8 out the door, but there is a new terrain management system -- essentially adaptive throttle, torque bias, and stability and traction control -- with settings for snow, mud, sand, and pavement, along with hill-descent control. Compared to the outgoing truck, the Explorer is 5.4 inches wider and 3.7 inches longer, but is 0.9 inches lower, while maintaining about 8 inches of ground clearance. Despite the size increase, weight has been reduced (by an unspecified amount) with the switch to unibody construction.

A brand-new look
In addition to departing from the traditional SUV formula, Ford has also left behind the classic boxy style of the Explorer. Contrary to Ford's claims, we don't see a drop of influence from previous Explorers in the new truck's styling. With the rest of the pillars blacked out to blend in with the glass, the thick, slanted, body-color C-pillar creates a cantilevered look for the roof. Darkened rocker panels that wrap around the wheel wells visually lift the Explorer while reducing the height of the body sides. The grille draws inspiration from the Taurus and will come in either a brushed-aluminum look or body color. The shapes and details are all attractive, but taken as a whole, the Explorer's design seems rather unharmonious. Base models ride on 17-inch steel wheels with covers while the XLT trim uses aluminum 18-inch wheels and Limited models come with 20-inch wheels. A roof rack is standard on all Explorers.

An upscale, feature-packed interior
Ford has been aiming for Audi-like levels of fit and finish on its interiors for a while now, but the Explorer is the first product where such a claim has actual credence. Soft-touch materials on the dash provide for tight fits with adjacent panels while details like real metal speaker grilles add a premium finish. The Explorer will be the third Ford product (following the Edge and the Lincoln MKX) to offer the company's new touch-screen infotainment system. Called MyFord Touch, it integrates navigation, audio, climate, and phone functions into an eight-inch touch screen while reducing the number of physical controls. The instrument cluster (when equipped with MyFord Touch) features two small LCD screens flanking an analog speedometer. The left screen shows vehicle information while the right display accesses limited information from the center screen.

Seating for seven is standard with an option for center bucket seats that reduce capacity to six passengers. Options include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, parallel parking assist, and a power folding third-row seat. A new active safety feature called curve control is standard. It decelerates the vehicle when understeer is about to send you off the cloverleaf exit ramp. With the Explorer, Ford is also the first manufacturer to offer inflatable rear seatbelts. Like airbags, the optional seatbelts (for the outboard seats of the second row) reduce trauma be spreading impact forces over a larger area. In this case, Ford says the inflatable belts create a surface area that's five times larger than the typical seat belt. The bags are in the shoulder belt while the inflator is in the buckle.

The Explorer lives another day
The demise of SUVs like the Dodge Durango and Chevy Trailblazer is proof enough that the Explorer's reinvention is critical to survival. However, Ford's own lineup provides enough competition to call the Blue Oval's product strategy into question. Along with the Flex, the company now has two large crossovers that seat seven and are priced around $30,000. We'll see how buyers perceive the Explorer's role once it arrives in dealerships toward the end of 2010.

LIVE: Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange Speaks in London

In light of whistle-blowing website Wikileaks publishing more than 90,000 secret military files on the war in Afghanistan, Australian founder Julian Assange decided to give a press conference in London Monday.

Highlights from the logs, published by the New York Times, the Guardian and Der Spiegel, have now thrust Wikileaks and its somewhat reclusive main man into the global spotlight.

He's speaking at the Press Club in central London, and has called for greater transparency and said there was no reason to doubt the reliability of the documents. He went on to say that the cover-up of crimes begins at the bottom and that it is the messenger who gets criticized. Assange also alleged that he believes the Australian government was asked by the U.S. to engage in surveillance of him and other Wikileaks staff.

Prader-Willi Syndrome

What is Prader-Willi syndrome?

Prader-Willi Syndrome is an uncommon genetic disorder that causes poor muscle tone, low levels of sex hormones and a constant feeling of hunger among other things. People with this disorder have a problem with their hypothalamus, part of the brain that controls feelings of fullness or hunger. Thus, these people never feel full and have a constant urge to eat, ultimately leading to life-threatening obesity.

Prader-Willi syndrome in most cases result from a spontaneous genetic mutation in genes on chromosome 15 that occurs at conception. In rare cases, the mutation is inherited.

What are the symptoms of Prader-Willi syndrome?

Often people with this disorder experience symptoms in two stages.

Stage 1 - Infants with Prader-willi syndrome can have low muscle tone affecting their ability to such properly. Because of this, they need special feeding assistance to help them eat and they may have problems gaining weight. The situation gets better as they grow older.

Stage 2--Between the ages of 1 and 6 years, the children with the disorder may feel constant hunger, have an insatiable appetite, meaning they never feel full.

Although they eat more, but because they have less muscle mass, they do not burn as many calories as the normal peers leading to the development of life-threatening obesity if the diet is not kept under strict control.

Other symptoms that may affect people with Prader-Willi syndrome include

Behavioral problems such as stubbornness or temper tantrums

Delayed motor skills and speech due to low muscle tone

Cognitive problems, ranging from near normal intelligence to mild intellectual and developmental disabilities; learning disabilities are common

Repetitive thoughts and verbalizations

Collecting and hoarding of possessions

Picking at skin

Low sex hormone levels

Prader-Willi syndrome is considered a spectrum disorder, meaning that not all symptoms are expected to occur in everyone with the disorder and the symptoms may range from mild to severe.

People with Prader-Willi syndrome often have some special mental strengths as well, such as skills in jigsaw puzzles. If obesity can be prevented, people with the syndrome can live a normal lifespan.

What are the treatments for Prader-Willi syndrome?

There is no cure for Prader-Willi syndrome. But, early intervention can help people with the disorder build skills for living a better life. Early diagnosis is essential and luckily a health care provider can simply do a blood test to check for Prader-Willi syndrome.

Exercise and physical activity can help control weight gain and develop motor skills. Speech therapy may also help with oral skills.

Human growth hormone can help increase height, decrease body fat, and increase muscle mass. However, nothing can help control appetite in those with Prader-Willi syndrome.

Watch True Blood season 3 episode 6 & True Blood s03e06

We have had three twilight movies including the latest Twilight Saga Eclipse and others movies are in the pipeline. But it looks like people want more of such stories and watch them on their screens.

One thing that seems to be driving fans of True Blood crazy may be something to do with the way characters are driving the onscreen drama.

Vampire business in the latest episode was made difficult by the atrocious talking of Bill whose accent was really, really hard on me. Notwithstanding the blood oozing vampires’ bloodied face he kept talking to kill the time.

I was wondering how a character can be made so bold who talks so insanely before vamps. I really loved his words, “then Ah could hahv seen yew smile”.

Vamp King and Sookie dialogue was also great with Sookie throwing all sorts of questions at the Vamp chief

Entourage Season 7 Episode 4

The Entourage Season 7 Episode 4 is all about advancing Vince’s career and a little more story advancement for the rest of the gang. Turtle gets a business proposal from Alex but he is not too sure about it. There is definitely some doubt present in the mind of Turtle about actually going through a deal with Alex, because Alex is way too smart for Turtle and Turtle knows it, but at the same time Turtle needs a business opportunity because he wants to make something of himself other than hanging around in Vince’s mansion. What is going to happen to Turtle would be clear only in the future episodes but for now doubt clouds him.

Johnny Chase aka Drama starts off rather oddly with John Stamos who is his costar. This start could mean a difficult relationship between them, but it seems there is a better turn of events coming soon to these two.

The character Ari gets a hint of success and somewhat of advancement in the NFL deal that he has been after. This is just another progression step that he was working and trying so hard for. There is however one thing that he has to watch out for, and that is the intention of Lizzie. Ari is very doubtful of Lizzie and there is potential tension there.

Scott and Eric seem to be moving towards an area of agreement concerning the advancement of Vince’s career because their company’s future also depends on it, so there is definitely good news there for Vincent and his fans.

Rich Sommer: Mad Men Actor !

Rich Sommer is a Mad Men actor and he is gearing up for an all new season of the hit AMC show. You can learn all about Rich here plus see some great photos and an awesome vidoe too.

Mad Men actor Rich Sommer, he plays media guy Harry Crane, is gearing up for the new season of the show and he is saying it is unbelievable. Don’t expect him to give away any secrets though, nope he is just simply saying he is ready for the new season to begin.

In terms of a biography on Rich well here is what we know. He was born in Toldedo, Ohio but raised in Stillwater, Minnesota. Sommer attended college in Minnesota where he stuided improv. Rich has been married to Virginia Donohoe for about five years. The couple has one daughter and a son that is arriving this fall.

He has had a successful acting career for years now having appeared in a number of commercials like Nextel, Sprint and Bud Light. In terms of film roles he is best known for the role of Doug in The Devil Wears Prada, he was Anne Hathaway’s friend. Rich has also guest starred on TV shows like Law & Order and The Office.

He is clearly best known for his role on the AMC show Mad Men and Rich Sommer is just fine with that. Rich actually wishes the shows seasons were longer than just 13 episodes. The 60’s era show about the advertising world of Madison Avenue is something Sommer hopes goes on for a long time, maybe into the 1970’s era.

I for one am a big fan of Sommer and his character of Harry. I think he adds so much to the show that is all about a man’s world. That is just what I think though I want to know your thoughts on Rich and the show too.

Angels trade Joe Saunders for Diamondbacks' Dan Haren

Unable to an add an impact bat, the Angels chose to upgrade their rotation Sunday when they acquired ace right-hander Dan Haren from the Arizona Diamondbacks for left-hander Joe Saunders, minor league pitchers Patrick Corbin and Rafael Rodriguez and a player to be named.

"We didn't see a fit from an offensive standpoint we thought would make us better," General Manager Tony Reagins said before the Angels' series finale against the Texas Rangers.

"There are still opportunities out there, and we will be aggressive in pursuing them. We're just looking for opportunities to improve the club. We didn't say it had to be an impact bat."

Get news and stories direct from our Sports desk to your inbox with our daily L.A. Sports Connection newsletter. Sign up »

Saunders, who threw a gem in his last start for the Angels, allowing one run and seven hits in seven innings of a 1-0 loss to Texas Friday night, was shocked when Manager Mike Scioscia pulled him off the field during the team's pregame stretch to inform him of the trade.

"I had no idea," Saunders said in the clubhouse, fighting back tears. "Scioscia came out and got me, and I thought he was going to tell me I was [making my next start] on three days' rest. Then I saw Tony in the office … it's hard.

"It's part of the game, it's a business, but it's tough leaving the guys. That's the hardest thing, because they're my family. I spent eight years with these guys. It's tough."

Haren, 29, has won 30 games over the past two seasons, trailing only two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, and the three-time All-Star, who could make his Angels debut against the Boston Red Sox Monday night in Anaheim, has averaged 15 wins a year over the past five seasons.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder, who mixes a split-fingered fastball with his fastball and breaking ball, is 7-8 with a 4.60 earned run average this season, and his 141 strikeouts is tied for the National League lead.

The Angels gave up a lot to get Haren — Saunders is one of baseball's better young left-handers, going 33-14 in 2008 and 2009 and 6-10 with a 4.62 ERA this season, and Corbin, a lefty who was a second-round pick in 2009, went 8-0 with a 3.86 ERA in nine starts at Class-A Cedar Rapids before being promoted to Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, where he is 5-3 with a 3.88 ERA in 11 starts.

But in Haren, they acquired a front-of-the rotation starter who will be under club control through 2013. Haren is in the second year of a four-year, $44.75-million contract that pays him $8.25 million this season, $12.75 million in 2011 and 2012 and includes a $15.5-million club option for 2013.

The addition of Haren and loss of Saunders, who makes $3.7 million this season, will add a net of about $1.8 million to the Angels' $121-million payroll.

"We felt very good about our starting five, but this is a huge opportunity for us to upgrade now and for the next couple of years," Scioscia said. "He's pitched in big games, he has terrific stuff, and he's a young veteran. He gives us a deeper front end of the rotation, and that's what every championship-caliber club wants."

The Rangers got that kind of pitcher when they acquired Cliff Lee from the Seattle Mariners on July 9. Could Haren have the same kind of impact on the Angels as the Rangers, who entered Sunday night's game with a six-game lead over the Angels in the American League West, expect Lee to have?

"He has that potential," Reagins said. "Cliff Lee is a dominant pitcher. We're not expecting Haren to be the guy. We expect him to do what he does, which is give you a quality start every time out and help us reach our goal."

Though Haren is having one of the best offensive seasons ever for a pitcher with at least 50 at-bats, hitting .364 (20 for 55) with one homer, six doubles and seven runs batted in, he will not bat in the American League.

And he will not provide an offensive boost to a team that lost its best hitter, first baseman Kendry Morales, to a season-ending leg injury in late-May. The Angels hope to add a slugger such as Washington's Adam Dunn, but the price in prospects appears too high.

"We got a good pitcher, but it's not Kendry Morales," Angels center fielder Torii Hunter said. "I don't see many players out there like Kendry, so you have to get some pieces, put them together and put them out there, and that's what they're doing."

Haren's ERA is high for him, but he's playing on a last-place club that is 21 games out of first place in the National League West and has struggled defensively and in the bullpen.

"It's tough to get motivated when you know you're going to lose," Hunter said. "Having a good chance to win, he'll be right where he needs to be here. Dan Haren is a proven pitcher, an All-Star. He was pitching in a hitter's park. Coming here will be a lot better for him."

BREAKING NEWS : Chip Ganassi Saved Jamie McMurray and McMurray Saved The No. 1 Team !

Much will be said over the next few weeks about how Jamie McMurray has become NASCAR’s new superstar. From having a mediocre few seasons with Roush-Fenway Racing, where he only won one race, to not having a job this time last season.

Now he’s won two of NASCAR’s biggest races in the same season, the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 with Chip Ganassi. It would appear that Ganassi has been the saving grace for McMurray as his career has suddenly taken off and his job security should no longer be in question.

What many are questioning, or maybe not after Sunday, is how the No. 1 team that was once driven by Martin Truex Jr. has suddenly become a front running team and big winners in NASCAR. It’s a complete turnaround to where the team and new driver once were.

To recap, a year ago it was announced that Truex would be leaving Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing for Michael-Waltrip Racing. In came McMurray who many felt had a lot of pressure on his shoulders to show that he could be a weekly contender in the sport. The Daytona 500 came as did the win and everyone was congratulating McMurray on his comeback.

That included Truex who was happy to see his former team accomplish such a great feat.

Now that they’ve won another big race, one can only wonder if he again feels the same way. His former team has now not only won more races than he has, but has won the biggest races there are.

Truex began his Sprint Cup career in the No. 1 car back in 2006, after Dale Earnhardt Jr., who also drove for then Dale Earnhardt Inc, spotted him. Earnhardt Jr. gave him a ride in the Nationwide Series where he won back-to-back titles before he was moved up to the cup. The team finished 19th in points their rookie year.

A year later, 2007, Truex and the team won their first career race at Dover, and made the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship. Winning a race, check; making the Chase, check; and finishing 11th in points, check. Things were looking up.

After Earnhardt Jr. left following 2007, things began to get weird around the organization. Truex and his team never won a race in 2008, finished 15th in points and prepared for the merger with Ganassi in 2009.

When Montoya came over and started show the world that he could be a true NASCAR driver, by making the Chase and contending for numerous wins, the No. 1 team still lagged behind. Montoya finished eighth in points and Truex Jr. was 23rd.

He wasn’t happy with the performance of his Bass Pro Shops team and felt he was second fiddle to new teammate Juan Pablo Montoya.

Truex made the decision to head to MWR, a company that was starting to come show their strength. Fast cars and a great partnership with NAPA Auto Parts drew in the New Jersey native.

He may be happier and fit in better with MWR, as McMurray feels happier and fits in better at EGR and he did at Roush, but the results aren’t what they could be. McMurray is reaping the rewards and shooting to the top of the sport, as Truex looks on.

When going to the racetrack each weekend, race fans never thought of the No. 1 team as those to contend with. In 2010, however, they have been up front and right in the thick of things on more than one occasion.

In 20 starts there are two wins, three poles, six top fives, and seven top 10s. It might be a long shot for the team to make the 2010 Chase, they’re 151 points out of 12th with six races remaining, but at this point that might be icing on the cake.

Races they haven’t won, they’ve come close. He was second at Talladega, and second in another big race, the Southern 500 at Darlington. And don’t forget how close he came to winning the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, the same day that Ganassi won the Indy 500.

Things are clicking and this team has all the right pieces in place to continually surprise everyone in the NASCAR world. When the big money is on the line, McMurray has become the go-to guy.

Is it the driver or is it the equipment? What has made McMurray excel with the No. 1 team and leave many forgetting about how used to drive that car?

Truex certainly isn’t a slouch and had his share of success while aboard, but 2010 has changed the lives of McMurray and Bass Pro Shops team led by Kevin “Bono” Manion.

Sometimes it’s just amazing how things work out, but for the No. 1 team and McMurray, what a roller coaster it has been. And who wouldn’t love to be on a roller coaster that leads you to victory lane at the Daytona 500 and now the Brickyard 400?

BREAKING NEWS : Jamie McMurray wins Brickyard 400 NASCAR race at Indianapolis

Jamie McMurray held off Kevin Harvick and Greg Biffle to win the NASCAR Brickyard 400 on Sunday after McMurray teammate and pole-sitter Juan Pablo Montoya suffered another late-in-the-race heartbreak at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

McMurray's victory gave his team co-owner, Chip Ganassi, an unprecedented motor-sports trifecta: McMurray also won the Daytona 500 in February, and Dario Franchitti of Ganassi's IndyCar team won this year's Indianapolis 500 in May.

Montoya, himself a former Indy 500 winner before he moved to NASCAR, led 86 laps in the 160-lap race and appeared poised to avenge his disappointment of last year, when he also dominated but finished 11th after a late-race speeding penalty on the pit road.

But with Montoya leading with 23 laps left this year, the caution period came out, and Montoya's crew elected to put four tires on his car. McMurray and several other cars took only two tires and restarted ahead of Montoya.

Once the green flag fell again, Montoya simply faded in the heavy traffic, and then he smacked the wall and hit Dale Earnhardt Jr. Montoya finished 32nd, and Earnhardt was 27th.
In a big surprise, Jimmie Johnson finished 22nd after starting second. Johnson, the reigning Sprint Cup Series champion who started second Sunday, had won the Brickyard 400 three times, including the last two.

The race got off to a rocky start when a spinning Kyle Busch triggered a multi-car crash on the second turn of the first lap. Sam Hornish Jr. and David Reutimann also were among the drivers involved.

MAGNANIMOUS HEAD ROLLING – MACON TELEGRAPH

That recommendation functions good for the county as good as city after the disturbance which was the SPLOST. As the mayor as good as Isaiah both competence say, “Come now, let us reason together.” We should. The opinion opposite the SPLOST, which was rounded off 60 percent opposite it, creates transparent electorate unequivocally do wish the “unity in community” so most in the pro-SPLOST debate preached though did not practice.

It is time right away to severely cruise consolidation. The people in this county crop up ready for it. City as good as county leaders contingency work upon the devise to possibly get Robert Brown’s support, or force the make the difference in the state Senate though his help. In the meantime, Commission Chairman Sam Hart should ask the internal judges for an prolongation upon the building timeline to keep the building from being the bigger domestic emanate in November.

Many members of Macon’s City Council were confounded by NewTown Macon as good as the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce aligning themselves with the Lucases to try to pass the SPLOST. Councilwoman Elaine Lucas is an fervent enemy of both groups upon City Council as good as in their strategy, NewTown as good as the cover have harm their relations with others upon legislature as good as have unsuccessful to form durability alliances with the Lucases.

We can, however, be blissful the time for regulating the Lucases to race-bait issues in the black village is ending. Their await of the SPLOST helped kill the SPLOST. We can proceed relocating over “us contra them” to “we.”

There is the bigger emanate you can no longer ignore. The mostly eccentric boards, authorities as good as agencies mostly fell in line with county. “There goes which city again,” they deceived themselves in to thinking. The people who harmonise these groups will mostly remain. When they part, the little will even be transposed by their children. They will continue the cycle of “we know best” to the common detriment.

But whilst wagons have been encircling between these groups as good as scapegoats have been being offered, you should still reason the designer of this disturbance accountable: the cover of commerce. The Telegraph reported, “[Chip] Cherry . . . pronounced the miss of report was the means of the taxation failing, though he supposed some-more of the shortcoming for not you do the improved pursuit informing the public.”

To the credit, had the cover not pushed this silly scheme, even NewTown Macon employing David Lucas would not have been sufficient to harm the SPLOST. Adding the sports as good as song halls of celebrity was the undiluted crowd issue. It translated good in the black community. It translated good in the white community.

Many of us have felt for the whilst which the cover had turn abandoned of innovative meditative as good as brand brand brand brand new ideas to foster custom in Bibb County. Its handling the SPLOST debate reinforces that. Its graduation of the squeeze intrigue for the halls of celebrity reinforces that. Its betting the plantation of the halls of celebrity as the car for custom reinforces that.

It is time for the brand brand brand brand new ideas, brand brand brand brand new thinking, as good as brand brand brand brand new faces during the chamber.

It's one of NASCAR's crown jewel, which takes center stage as 43 drivers climb aboard their machines for a chance to kiss the bricks.

The 17th running of the Brickyard 400 isn't about point racing or trying to make the Chase, this is about joining the history books. First and foremost come a couple of drivers that are starting near the front of the field: Juan Pablo Montoya and Jimmie Johnson.

Montoya won the pole, the third of his career, on Saturday morning with a lap of 182.279 around the 2.5 mile track. Montoya is a strong favorite heading into the race where last year he led 116 laps and was well on his way to victory before getting a pit road speeding penalty. He's also a past winner at the track, he was the 2000 Indianapolis 500 champion and is ready for another chance to kiss the bricks.

If Montoya or teammate Jamie McMurray won the Brickyard 400 today it would make Ganassi the only owner to have ever won all three in the same year. He's currently the only one to have won the Daytona 500 and the Indy 500 in the same season. McMurray delivered Ganassi a Daytona 500 win in February and two months ago IndyCar Series driver Dario Franchitti won the Indianapolis 500.

However, there are a few more drivers that might have something to say about that.

Starting second will be defending four-time Sprint Cup Series champion, as well as back-to-back Brickyard 400 champion Jimmie Johnson. When Montoya received his speeding penalty last year, Johnson was right there to take advantage, winning his third career Brickyard 400.

Qualifying second has the No. 48 Lowe's team in high spirits as they try to become just the second team to win four times at Indianapolis. Johnson is also tied in bonus points with Denny Hamlin if the Chase were to start today. While he won't be thinking about that during the race, if Johnson were to get his sixth win of the year today it would be another big storyline.

A big storyline that teammate Jeff Gordon has been following is his winless streak, which has now hit 48 races. Gordon has been shut out of victory lane since April of 2009 at Texas, but has been running in championship form much of this season. He comes to the Brickyard as a four-time winner, looking for No. 5.

Gordon says there would be not better place to get his first win of the year than at a track that he loves to race on. He'll start eighth on the grid.

Then there's hometown hero Tony Stewart.

Growing up in Columbus, Indiana, Stewart never thought that he would get the chance to race at Indianapolis in a stock car. Coming from the open wheel ranks he, like Montoya, also had raced in the Indy 500, but never had the opportunity to win it.

In 2005 Stewart came back home and finally got the chance to kiss the bricks, and then did so again in 2007. Entering today's race the driver of the No. 14 Old Spice/Office Depot Chevrolet is in the same boat as Gordon, he hasn't won a race this season.

However, he's always a contender when it comes to Indy and he'll be ready to party today. Stewart will roll off 15th later today.

For the drivers that won't be contenders today, they will be point racing. Many are still trying to position themselves to make the Chase, while others are trying to maintain their Chase positions. The Brickyard 400 is a long race that will be about nutrition and teams can fall by the wayside.

There will be two important things to keep an eye on today: horsepower and surprises.

There's an old saying around the NASCAR garage, "the fastest car doesn't always win." At Indianapolis that won't be the case, drivers that unload fast will continue to be fast and they'll be the ones to deal with today. Montoya has shown his power all weekend, as has Johnson. Now isn't the time to hold back because passing is hard to do at Indy, drivers will be trying to get everything they can early on.

As for surprises, Indianapolis can make a drivers career. Kevin Harvick pulled off the win in 2003 to formally announce his presence in the sport. In 2005 Kasey Kahne was leading late in the race before Stewart ruined his career. Sometimes all it takes is for one big race for a driver to rise to the top, as McMurray did in Daytona this year.

Will another driver do the same today?

Whomever it may be, the emotion won't be lacking. Indianapolis is sacred ground and all 43 drivers know it. Walking into the speedway brings goosebumps and to win here, it may be the greatest day of their life. The weather is expected to be hot and the track will be slick, however it won't matter.

Be the first to the checkered flag, just like any other weekend. But today if you're the driver that does so, you'll be the one getting the sweetest kiss in sports.

The pre-race activities for the 2010 Brickyard 400 starts at 12:00 p.m. ET. on ESPN, followed by the green flag shortly after 1:00 p.m.

12:00 ESPN's pre-race show has begun. The sky is overcast and the weather is breezy, as 43 cars sit on pit road before the command to start engines. Drivers have already gone through the mandatory drivers meeting and will spend the next hour with their team going through their race day strategy.

Batting first helps Wayne Newton get off to strong start !

TERRE HAUTE — Losing a coin toss may have helped Wayne Newton Post 346 win an American Legion baseball game Friday afternoon at Terre Haute North High School.

While manager John Hayes of Post 346 would always rather have the last at-bats as home team, he admitted Friday that his players and coaches sometimes think otherwise. And when the host team of the Terre Haute Regional lost the pre-game flip and thus had to bat first against Lafayette Post 11, Hayes’ players showed him why.

Before Lafayette pitcher Taylor Glaze had recorded an out, he’d already thrown 35 pitches and allowed four runs. By the time the top of the first inning was over, the score was 5-0 and Glaze’s pitch count had reached 51. With the sun beating down and temperatures nearing triple-figure status — and with A.J. Reed on the mound for Post 346 — that was more than enough.

“It was hot,” Reed said after striking out 14 batters in eight innings of the host team’s 8-0 win. “Fifty-one pitches in an inning? [Glaze] wasn’t going to go very long … but we jump on whoever [the opponents] put in there.”

“We lost the flip, but we scored five right away and set the tempo,” added third baseman Michael Eberle. “On a hot day like this, everybody was dragging a little bit. To get up early was nice.”

“Our kids like to bat first,” John Hayes noted after the game, “and that worked out pretty good this game. A.J. was on top of his game, and when we score runs like that, it makes it easier to pitch.”

Glaze, the winning pitcher in each of the last two Class A high school state championship games for Lafayette Central Catholic, nibbled early and paid dearly.

Jacob Hayes opened the game by driving a full-count pitch over the fence. Tyler Wampler also worked his way to a full count, fouled off a pitch, then drew a walk. Wampler took second on a passed ball, and when Reed got a bloop single on a 2-and-2 pitch the Lafayette center fielder tried to throw out Wampler at third. The ball went in the Wayne Newton dugout, scoring Wampler and sending Reed to second. Eberle then came back from an 0-and-2 count with a host of foul balls and finally, after getting to a full count himself, drove a double to the right-center gap to score Reed.

So far that was four batters, three runs and 28 pitches. Glaze needed just two pitches to deal with Parker Fulkerson, but the first of them was a wild pitch that sent Eberle to third, and he scored from there as Fulkerson reached on an error. After two out — and another wild pitch — Fulkerson hustled home from second when Seth Lunsford got an infield hit on a chopper to the right side that left no one available to cover first base.

At that point, Reed said, he could appreciate the heat.

“It helps keep my arm loose, so I don’t have to worry after long innings,” the big lefthander said after the game. “[That first inning] gave us some momentum, but I had to come out and still throw strikes.”

Reed actually did walk a batter and allowed an infield hit in the bottom of the first, but got out of that inning with a strikeout and Eberle’s stellar play for the third out on a slow roller. Those were the first two of 10 batters retired in a row, seven on strikes, and only in the bottom of the sixth — when the first two Lafayette batters singled before Reed dominated the middle of the Post 11 batting order — was he threatened again.

Post 346 tallied single runs in the second on a towering homer by Reed, in the third on two Lafayette errors, and in the top of the seventh when Eberle again showed his two-strike prowess, fouling off three pitches in a row before lining his team-high 13th homer.

“It was a two-strike count, I got a pitch down the middle and I took advantage of it,” he said after the game. “I’ve been seeing the ball pretty good.”

Both Eberle and Jacob Hayes finished the game a triple shy of the cycle, in fact, and Reed failed to get two more RBI in the top of the sixth when his two-out screaming liner was caught — almost in self-defense — to end the inning with runners at second and third.

John Hayes said he was aware of Glaze’s potential, but added, “Our kids handled him. We moved the ball pretty well on him.”

As far as the effect of the early lead, the manager added, “I know how tough it is. It’s hot out there, unbearable for the kids. But we didn’t want to be in that 3:30 [losers’ bracket] game.”

Post 346 now plays at noon today, and would advance to Sunday’s championship round with a win.

• Kokomo Post 6 9, Crawfordsville Post 72 8, 10 innings — In Friday’s second first-round game of the Terre Haute Regional for American Legion baseball, Devin Schacht’s double capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth and Dylan Green’s two-out single in the 10th drove in the winning run.

Clay O’Neal led off the bottom of the 10th with his second double of the game, but was still at second with two out. A wild pitch and Green’s single, just in front of Crawfordsville’s diving left fielder, ended the see-saw battle.

Colton Summers, who pitched all 10 innings for the winners, shut Crawfordsville out until the sixth inning, when a five-run rally put Post 72 on top 5-4. Crawfordsville then led until the ninth-inning rally for Kokomo.

Former winners highlight Lake Placid field !

The 2010 Ironman Lake Placid professional race features a pair of former winners, along with a number of Ironman champions.

Joining the men's defending champion, Germany's Maik Twelsiek, will be multiple Ironman winners Australian Jason Shortis and New Zealand's Bryan Rhodes. The women's field will be led by Americans Caitlin Snow, the 2008 Ironman Lake Placid champion, and Amy Marsh.

Twelsiek won his first Ironman title in 2007 at Ironman Wisconsin and recently finished in third place at Ironman Lanzarote. He posted a 12th-place finish at the 2009 Ironman World Championship. Shortis is a veteran of the Ironman circuit with a resume that includes two titles at Ironman Western Australia. He raced to a third-place finish at Ironman Lake Placid in 2003 and repeated that performance at the 2009 race.

Rhodes is on the comeback trail after an Achilles injury last year; his last Ironman win was at the 2008 Ironman Canada. Others to watch in the field are Ben Hoffman, who placed third at the early-season Ironman St. George and perennial top-10 finisher Petr Vabrousek.

Snow followed her surprise win in Lake Placid in 2008 with a second-place finish last year. Known for her amazing strength on the marathon, Snow used that speed to move herself up to third place at Ironman St. George in May. Marsh took her first Ironman title at the 2009 Ironman Wisconsin; she added to that with a recent win at the 2010 Ironman China. Australia's Carrie Lester burst on to the Ironman scene with a win at Ironman Australia earlier this year in her first Ironman and first marathon.

Ironman Lake Placid will take place for the 12th consecutive year, and more than 2,600 athletes are expected to compete for a professional prize purse of $50,000 and 72 qualifying spots for the 2010 Ironman World Championship to be held in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in October.

Taliban seize key district in Afghan east

(Reuters) - Taliban guerrillas have captured a strategic district from the Afghan government after days of clashes in eastern Nuristan province, officials said on Sunday.

Separately, the Afghan government said it was checking reports by locals saying some 40 Afghan civilians were killed in a raid by foreign forces in Sangin district of southern Helmand province on Friday.

In Nuristan's Barg-e Matal, dozens of Taliban fighters and up to six Afghan police were killed during days of clashes before the district fell to the Taliban overnight.

Barg-e Matal is important for the government and militants because of its location and has regularly changed hands.

Lying near the border with Pakistan, the rugged district has been used as a supply route for arms and fighters for the Taliban in three provinces, most importantly for Badakhshan where the Taliban have mounted a series of deadly attacks recently.

Afghan police forces withdrew from Barg-e Matal to avoid high casualties and in the face of sustained Taliban pressure after days of skirmishes, interior ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary told reporters.

"Right now the police forces in Nuristan are working to recapture it," he said.

The Taliban have yet to comment about the fall of the district and the reported losses in their ranks.

In Helmand province, where the Taliban insurgency is strongest, Bashary said provincial authorities were checking reports by residents that dozens of civilians were killed in a raid by foreign forces on Friday.

Further details were not immediately available.
